Prevention of Violence Against Children (P-VAC) -

  1. A) Development and successful acceptance of grant for IAP’s initiative to prevent VAC (Nov 2022- August 2023).  Working Together with full support from the IAP President, HSG, and office bearers of IAP, Dr Rajeev Seth, IAP Vice President NZ and past chair of ICANCL board worked hard over 9 months to  develop IAPs initiative  “Prevention of ViolenceAgainst Children ( P-VAC)”. Dr. Maichel Social Capital, a nonprofit limited liability company form Germany agreed to donate funds to IAP to support the P-VAC program.  As child protection is everyone’s responsibility, it was decided that IAP should lead the project, while inviting doctors of Indian Medical Association, FOGSI and allied medical society of Psychiatry, Forensic Medicine, Family and  Community medicine specialty to take part in 5 zonal TOTs ( 50 doctors per each zone  of India). All out efforts were made to screen and select committed doctors from the above specialties nationwide, through the help of IAP office bearers, executive board members, senior past presidents of IAP and ICANCL group, past associations and distinguished faculty members. The technical expert faculty group undertook the task to develop a prevention of VAC training curriculum with the aims to develop specific learning objectives (SLOs) over twice a month online calls. It was proposed that the SLOs shall have a clear intent, content, methodology and process, both in person and online telemedicine training modules to improve prevention and response to VAC. The objective was to provide simple, yet important and critical take home messages and development of knowledge base practice standard operating protocols (SOPs) for the paediatricians and allied medical professionals. The SLOs will be specifically focused on various common forms of VAC,evidence based, reliable and time bound.

As per the committee decision, and with agreement of IAP President Dr Upendra Kinjwadekar, the first pilot in person P-VAC TOT module was launched on Agartala, Tripura on December1, 2023, alongside PEDICON EZ; second TOT is planned on December 15, on the sidelines of PEDICON NZ at Jalandhar, Punjab, and the remaining trainings will be planned in 2024, with for the IAP membership, including the ICANCL group IAP and our allied partners. The team has started work on Caregivers education curriculum for multidisciplinary professionals, teachers, frontline health professionals, caregivers and parents. A dedicated website is being created for IAP P-VAC project to be released at the TOT at Jalandhar, PEDICON NZ
